At Browning Masonic Community, our employees are super stars! We recently sat down with JJ in Maintenance so he could share his story and the success he’s had at Browning Masonic Community. Meet JJ, a Browning Masonic Community Super Star!

 

How long have you worked at Browning Masonic Community (BMC)?

I have worked at BMC for 5 months. I came here from working maintenance for the county library. I had worked there for many years when COVID changed my life.  Layoffs caused me to start looking for other options when it became evident that even with my large number of years that I had the potential to lose my job.

One of my co-workers from the library told me to go on Indeed and look at the job posting for BMC.  My wife is a social worker and she had some very positive interactions with BMC, so she encouraged me to apply and here I am!

 

What makes Browning Masonic Community different than other senior living communities?

I can’t tell you what makes BMC different from other senior living communities since this is my first time working in senior living.  But, I can definitely tell you why I like working here.

Every day when I am heading home I leave feeling good.  I know I have spent my day helping someone.  That what makes working at BMC so special.

 

What do your daily responsibilities include?

I do everything from repairs to remodeling.  Sometimes I am working inside of a community member’s residence or on another day I may be working on something on the outside of the building or in the common areas.  No two days are just alike. Right now I am remodeling some of the apartments.

Maintenance can involve things such as plumbing, electrical and HVAC.  It could also include carpentry skills and masonry.  You may find yourself painting, tiling or wall papering.

The best part of every day is knowing that I have made of our community members’ lives better!

 

What are some of your favorite benefits Browning Masonic Community offers?

When I started working at Browning Masonic Community, I was excited to learn about the benefits.  The benefit package is extremely competitive.  What was exciting for me, my benefits here are better than what I had at my last job and I’ve only been here 5 months.

You even get up to 17 days paid time off in your first year!  You sure don’t get that everywhere.

 

What would you tell a prospective applicant about Browning Masonic Community?

I would tell anyone that if you want a good job that makes you excited to come to work every day this is the place for you. I love coming to work here at BMC and I haven’t always felt that way about other jobs. You will feel like you are part of a family. You can easily talk to your supervisor and your co-workers as you are learning your job. They are here to help you.

Simply, this is the place that you need to be!

 

Why do you love working at Browning Masonic Community?

The friendly, family, fun atmosphere makes me love coming to work every day. My co-workers and the community members make you feel like you are part of a family. I even received Christmas cards!

I felt like I was home within hours of starting my job. Everyone calls me JJ which is what I have been called since I was a kid.  That came from my father being a twin and he went by his initials and I do too.  That helped me know that I was going to fit in easily.  I feel appreciated.

Instant gratification, seeing the smiles of people’s faces and hearing “thanks” makes every day special at Browning Masonic Community.
