Meet Jesse, Life Enrichment Coordinator

A True Super Star

At Browning Masonic Community, our employees are super stars! We recently sat down with Life Enrichment Coordinator Jesse so she could share her story and the success she’s had at Browning Masonic Community. Meet Jesse, a Browning Masonic Community Super Star!

How long have you worked at Browning Masonic Community?

I have worked at Browning Masonic Community (BMC) for 9½ years. I started out as a part-time dietary aid. I was hand-picked to become a resident assistant in Pathways. Then I became a Life Enrichment Aid and decided to take the required courses to become an activity director. The rest is history, I am currently the Life Enrichment Coordinator. I couldn’t be happier. This position is the best of all worlds.

What makes Browning Masonic Community different than other senior living communities?

While BMC is part of the larger organization, The Ohio Masonic Home, BMC is the smallest of the three campuses. I enjoy the small campus. I know all of my co-workers, our community members, and their families. I love that family feeling that I get every day as I walk through the door. Since I have the opportunity to know everyone, I notice if they are not having a good day and I determine what I can do to brighten their day.

What do your daily responsibilities include?

My responsibilities vary from day to day and I love having a wide variety of responsibilities. I do everything from creating calendars and scheduling entertainment to assessments of our community members. I oversee the programming in Pathways and in doing so, I touch base with the nurses and the resident assistants. I work with our dietary department as well. I determine if there are additional needs that we should try to meet. Anything to make the lives of our community members the best possible is what I get to do.

Zoom and Facetime have become an important part of the lives of our community members. This brightens their day as well as their families. It’s so nice to see smiling faces on both sides of the computer screen. I make sure this works smoothly so we can continue to see those smiles.

One more thing that makes each day special, we work together. If dietary needs a hand, we come together as a team and help them out. That’s what the BMC employees do to make sure we are a cohesive team.

What are some of your favorite benefits Browning Masonic Community offers?

Browning Masonic Community has allowed me to grow. I am a single mom with two wonderful sons, so I know the importance of personal growth and education. BMC, through The Ohio Masonic Home, has a tuition assistance program for their employees. This program put me through school and gave me the opportunity to become a Life Enrichment Coordinator. The tuition assistance benefit gave me the opportunity to grow as a person, a leader, and a mentor. I am very grateful for this program.

What would you tell a prospective employee about Browning Masonic Community?

That’s easy. Come to work and prepare to be part of a family. This happens so easily. Your co-workers will be there for you, but more importantly, the community members will show you the true meaning of family. It will only take a few days to discover all the “moms” and “grandmothers” that just became part of your daily life.

You will enjoy coming to work, but you will discover that working at BMC “doesn’t feel like work.”

Why do you love working at Browning Masonic Community?

I have the freedom to do what I like to do. If I have an idea that might bring enjoyment to our community members, we discuss the possibilities. Then, we decide if it can work, and we bring the idea to life. One of my favorite examples is the Farmer’s Market. A few ideas, in my opinion, turned out to be one of the best events we have ever had at BMC!

Making a living by working with great people and having the opportunity to do what I love, you can’t get any better than that.
