A True Super Star
At Western Reserve Masonic Community, (WRMC) our employees are super stars! We recently sat down with Katie, the Manager of Dining Services, so she could share her story and the success she’s had at Western Reserve Masonic Community. Meet Katie, a Western Reserve Masonic Community Super Star!
How long have you worked at Western Reserve Masonic Community?
I have worked at WRMC for four years. I started out as a Dietary Aid and worked in that position for two years. Then I moved to the Dining Room Supervisor and just a couple of weeks ago I became the Manager of Dining Services.
I am from Valley City, a town close to Medina and currently attending Cleveland State University majoring in Biology. I have been in school the entire time that I have been working at WRMC.
What makes Western Reserve Masonic Community different than other senior living communities?
This is my first job ever, so I can’t compare it to other senior living communities, but I can tell you why I love working here. This is an energetic community that permits creative freedom. I can build relationships with our residents and develop a feeling of family. I never worry about problems since we work as a team. We support each other in everything we do.
What do your daily responsibilities include?
I make sure that dining services are running smoothly. I check our servers regularly, so they always know that I am there for whatever they need. I am responsible for the café as well as breakfast. I am also responsible for printing dining tickets for our residents.
I am excited to provide dining services for both our current building as well as our newly built independent living apartments.
What are some of your favorite benefits Western Reserve Masonic Community offers?
I have several different benefits to talk about. The most important benefit to me is the tuition assistance. I am currently using the tuition assistance program and have been every semester since I’ve been a student at Cleveland State University. I will graduate and begin my master’s degree with virtually no debt. Very few college students can say that. The flexible hours give me the opportunity to take the classes that I need to graduate.
A personal benefit is the relationship that I have developed with our residents. They give such great advice. It’s like having extra grandparents that I can talk to regularly. They were so excited when I got my recent promotion. It was thrilling to hear their words of encouragement.
What would you tell a prospective employee about Western Reserve Masonic Community?
I would tell them it’s a great place to work! I would highly recommend WRMC to everyone. It’s family oriented. My sister works here too, and it’s exciting to watch her grow in her job. There are always chances for promotions.
Just by virtue of working at WRMC, I have made new friends that always have my back. If you are looking for a family-oriented place to work, WRMC is the place for you.
Why do you love working at Western Reserve Masonic Community?
I am only 20 years old, and this is my first job. To be trusted with the responsibility of the Manager of Dining Services really feels good. That much responsibility at my age really makes me proud.
Along with these responsibilities, comes the pleasure and the personal growth that comes with having a building full of grandparents watching out for me every day.
