How long have you worked at Browning Masonic Community?
I have worked at BMC for 4 years this past January. I have worked in the medical field for over 20 years. I started out as a CNA (Certified Nursing Assistant) and have also worked in home healthcare. I returned to school in 2015 at Athena Career Academy in Toledo to get my degree as an LPN. Going back to school is one of the best decisions I have ever made.
What makes Browning Masonic Community different than other senior living communities?
There are so many answers to this question. Let’s start by looking out the window. BMC is a beautiful campus throughout every season of the year. BMC feels like home. Everyone here is my family.
In a previous job, I worked in a detox center. It was challenging and I learned so much during that time. All the experiences that I have had in life made me the person that I am today. I am proud to be a nurse and be here at Browning Masonic Community.
What do your daily responsibilities include?
I have a variety of responsibilities that I enjoy every shift. I start the day doing a report with the nurse from the previous shift. I need to know how my residents are doing so I can make their day the best possible. A very important part of my day is med pass, making sure my residents get the proper medications. I also schedule doctor appointments and transportation as well as scheduling lab work. I make sure that everything is ready for the staff that is coming on the next shift.
The part of my day that I enjoy the most is spending time with my residents. I want to know how they are doing, and I want to learn from them. I love listening to their stories.
What are some of your favorite benefits Browning Masonic Community offers?
I have several favorite benefits, both financial and personal. Our benefits package is excellent, as is our EAP (Employee Assistance Program). You never know when you may need help. My favorite benefit is the tuition program. Just look around and you won’t find any place that will give you up to $5,000 per year to get your college education.
Personally, the feeling of family is so important to me. People like to feel appreciated, and you will never have to worry about not being appreciated at BMC. You may assume that the feeling of the family comes from your co-workers, and you’re right, but I know I’m appreciated even by the CEO, Scott Buchanan. When he visits BMC, he stops in to say hello and asks about me as well as my family.
What would you tell a prospective employee about Browning Masonic Community?
BMC is a wonderful place to work. You never have to worry about feeling alone. You have a group of co-workers and residents that become your family when you walk in the door. I love what I do, and I know you will too. The phrase “I’ve got your back” fits the culture that BMC employees experience. There is no place quite like Browning Masonic Community.

I love building relationships with our residents and their families as well as hearing their stories. It’s that family feeling that makes me enjoy getting up in the morning and coming to work.
I made an important decision for myself. I am here to stay. I’m not going anywhere, and I plan to retire from Browning Masonic Community.
