A True Super Star
At Western Reserve Masonic Community, (WRMC) our employees are superstars! We recently sat down with Bill from Environmental Services so he could share his story and the success he’s had at Western Reserve Masonic Community. Meet Bill, a Western Reserve Masonic Community superstar.
How long have you worked at Western Reserve Masonic Community?
This Thanksgiving, I will have been a WRMC employee for two years. I have worked in several different departments. Currently, I work in the Pathways Memory Support Neighborhood. I have worked at other jobs in my life, but I feel like I came home when I made the decision to work at WRMC. I may come to work with thoughts on my mind or feeling tired, but when I go home each day, I go home with a smile on my face.
What makes Western Reserve Masonic Community different than other senior living communities?
I have worked in housekeeping for many years, even back in the days when men were called a “porter.” I have worked in commercial businesses and in my earlier working years, I worked at another long-term care location. What’s different is an easy question, the atmosphere, and the people.
At WRMC there’s a strong family atmosphere. When I began working here, I discovered quickly that I have an extended family and a “bunch of sisters.” Both residents and co-workers ask how your day is going and do you need anything. We help each other to make sure we finish everything we need, and the quality is up to par. You won’t find this atmosphere at many jobs.
What do your daily responsibilities include?
My responsibilities are consistent each day. I keep the rooms of residents in the Pathways Memory Support Neighborhood clean and sanitary. I dust and vacuum as well as clean the bathrooms and the common areas. I want to make sure that the rooms I am responsible for are always up to code.
You might think that sounds boring, but it’s not. While I work, I enjoy talking with the residents and hearing their stories. Everyone has a different story, and I love hearing all of them.
What are some of your favorite benefits Western Reserve Masonic Community offers?
One of my favorite benefits is my boss, Carol Gatt. I couldn’t ask for anyone better to lead our team. She’s always there for each of us. Our residents are a very special benefit in my life. They brighten every day I am at WRMC, and I can only hope that I do the same for them.
What would you tell a prospective employee about Western Reserve Masonic Community?
Join our team. You won’t regret it. You will quickly discover that you have an extended family to support you. Two things to help you every day, always smile and be courteous. This will brighten your day and those around you as well.
Why do you love working at Western Reserve Masonic Community?
I love working at Western Reserve Masonic Community because I like working on a team. You can accomplish so much when you work as a team.
Each day I take the time to talk to the residents while I clean their spaces. Sometimes you can lose track of time while listening to the stories of their lives. I love to see the smiles on their faces when they share their stories. I want them to be happy and I am glad that I can be a part of their lives.
