Meet Paula, Dietary Aide at Springfield Masonic Community!
At Springfield Masonic Community (SMC), our employees are super stars! Meet Paula, Dietary Aide at Springfield Masonic Community. We recently sat down with Paula so she could share her story and the success she’s had in senior living.
How long have you worked at Springfield Masonic Community?
I have worked as a dietary aid for 27 years this March. I am a Springfield native and I started at SMC after graduating from Springfield North High School. I pride myself in my good attendance, as I have only missed a handful of days in the last 15 years.
What makes Springfield Masonic Community different than other senior living communities?
I can’t tell you what makes SMC different from other senior living communities, but I can tell you what I like about working here. The people, our community members is the reason I come to work every day. I work in the dining room with our assisted living community members and enjoy seeing that they are pleased with their food choices.
What do your daily responsibilities include?
My responsibilities are consistent from day to day. I start each morning in Burdick Tower with food preparation. When everything is prepared, we transport the food from a central kitchen to a smaller kitchen in Cunningham Place for serving the community members in our newly renovated dining room.
I take time after serving the meals to talk with our community members to see if they are enjoying their meal. I make sure that special dietary needs, such as gluten free meals, are in place for several of our people. If there are special requests, such as how you want your eggs prepared, I see that this is taken care of as well. I do this for breakfast, lunch and dinner.
What are some of your favorite benefits Springfield Masonic Community offers?
I really appreciate the great benefits that SMC offers all of its employees. The benefits easily meet my needs. My favorite benefit is our vacation leave program. You start earning vacation time as soon as you begin working. You see on each pay check just how much time you have accrued. Since I have worked at SMC for nearly 27 years, I have seen something exciting. The longer you work here, the greater the amount of hours you accrue per pay check.
I LOVE to travel, so this is the perfect benefit for me.
What would you tell a prospective applicant about Springfield Masonic Community?
I love my job and the people that I work with. SMC is a great place to work! I feel like we are a team and we enjoy each other. My supervisor, Tiffani Nelson, is a fantastic boss and I would like to thanks her for recommending me as an Employee Super Star. I help with the training of some of the new dietary aids. When you choose a career in dietary, you need to be prepared to work. You need a good attitude since you are around our community members every day. The work is rewarding, and you can see the smiles of the faces of our community members.
There is something here for everyone. Consider joining our team!
Why do you love working at Springfield Masonic Community?
There are so many reasons. Feeling appreciated always makes you want to come to work. For me, getting to work with some of our assisted living community members, helps me enjoy every day. I remember a gentleman from several years ago. I really enjoyed talking to him. His daughter loved to make candy and occasionally he would bring me some of her homemade chocolate turtles. They were so good!
Our community members become friends. I look forward to seeing them each and every day. Seeing the happiness on their faces, makes me know that I am just where I belong.
