Meet Tania, Registered Nurse (RN)

A True Super Star

At Springfield Masonic Community, our employees are super stars! We recently sat down with Tania, an RN so she could share her story and the success she’s had at Springfield Masonic Community. Meet Tania, a Springfield Masonic Community Super Star!

How long have you worked at Springfield Masonic Community?

That’s an interesting question. I grew up at Springfield Masonic Community. (SMC) My mother has worked here for over 20 years, and I have been coming to SMC regularly since I was eight years old. Coming here feels like home. I started working at SMC at the age of 17 as a State Tested Nursing Assistant (STNA), continued to further my education, and became a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN).  This past August I celebrated one year of being a Registered Nurse (RN).

I have a three-year-old daughter that I hope someday follows in my and my mother’s footsteps and works in the medical field at SMC. She is already growing up here, just like it did.

What makes Springfield Masonic Community different than other senior living communities?

SMC feels like home. This is a very family-oriented community that cares about the residents and the employees. The management is very supportive of each of us. I feel like “I matter.”  Having worked in other places, I guarantee you won’t get this feeling everywhere.

What do your daily responsibilities include?

I wear two different hats, and I would like to tell you about both. First, I am a floor nurse. I care for my residents, take vitals and distribute medications, work with our residents on activities of daily living, and communicate with the doctors and rehab as well as their families. I always advocate for our residents.  Last but not least, I have fun with our residents. I always try to brighten their day.

Some days I serve as a nursing supervisor. That is a completely different set of responsibilities. I work closely with managing the staff and charting. I regularly communicate with the Director of Nursing and the Assistant Director of Nursing. Both roles are different, and I thoroughly enjoy each of them.

What are some of your favorite benefits Springfield Masonic Community offers?

I feel that I have a very good salary and benefits, but there is so much more to consider. The feeling I get every day working at SMC is a huge benefit to me. As a younger person, it meant so much to me that one of our leaders took the time to sit down with me and offer me “life advice.” Those types of relationships are invaluable to me.

What would you tell a prospective employee about Springfield Masonic Community?

If working with senior adults is your calling, you should consider joining our team. I guarantee you will quickly learn that we are here to support you. You will receive all the training/education you need to make sure you feel comfortable doing your job to the best of your ability.

Why do you love working at Springfield Masonic Community?

When I was a child, working here with my mother, growing up here in Springfield, and visiting the community regularly was so special to me. Watching my daughter grow up in the same environment is equally special.

In my opinion, relationships are a necessity when working with older adults. You get to know the residents and enjoy their stories. Sometimes, you get to know their families. There are times when you are with them until it’s their time. That can be very emotional, but you can look back and know you did your very best for them. That will always give you comfort.
