A True Superstar
At Springfield Masonic Community (SMC), our employees are superstars! We recently sat down with Scott, PBX Operator, so he could share his story and the success he’s had at Springfield Masonic Community. Meet Scott, a Springfield Masonic Community Superstar Employee!
How long have you worked at Springfield Masonic Community?
I have worked at Springfield Masonic Community for eight years. I have worked in several different positions, including security and grounds. All these positions have been good, but I really love working as a PBX operator. There are many responsibilities besides answering the phone. I enjoy being able to assist the callers whether they are our residents or a first-time caller to Springfield Masonic Community.
What makes Springfield Masonic Community different than other senior living communities?
SMC is the only senior living community where I have worked. I worked as a firefighter for 20 years, but there is a similarity. I enjoy working with people and doing my best to support each of them. Our SMC team works hard to extend a helping hand to our co-workers and more importantly our residents.
What do your daily responsibilities include?
I have quite a variety of responsibilities. This job is not just answering the phone and transferring calls. We do our best to keep very accurate records, so all calls are logged. I also monitor fire alarms and do data tracking. I make badges as well as handbooks for new employees.
SMC is very watchful of the health and safety of our residents. We have a check-in procedure to account for our residents. If we have not heard from them through our designated check-in procedure, I call them at noon to make sure they are alright and see if they need any assistance.
What are some of your favorite benefits Springfield Masonic Community offers?
Springfield Masonic Community offers some excellent benefits, both financially and personally. Financially, I really appreciate our Health Savings Account (HSA) and our medical benefits. The ability to build my PTO and carry them into the new year works well for me.
Personally, I really enjoy assisting our residents and helping them to feel “at home” here at SMC. Our residents make every day special for me and all the SMC employees.
What would you tell a prospective employee about Springfield Masonic Community?
I would tell a prospective applicant to come to SMC and join the team. The benefits are top notch. You will enjoy your co-workers and your bosses are excellent. You will quickly discover that the training is excellent, so you will be well prepared to do your job.
Why do you love working at Springfield Masonic Community?
I love helping people. People may think that being the community’s operator isn’t anything special. I see that differently. It’s a way to set the first impression for a new caller to SMC. Here’s an example. A lady called one day looking for a particular retirement community. She had the wrong number and was extremely upset not knowing the appropriate name of the community or phone number. I could have shared that this was the wrong number and disconnected the call. Since no other line was ringing and I had a minute, I helped her figure out where she needed to call. I looked up the number for her, gave her the number, and transferred the call for her. This took about 5 minutes but the thanks that she shared before I transferred the call made my entire day. It’s amazing how little things will brighten your day.
