Meet Sean, Maintenance Technician

A True SuperStar

At Browning Masonic Community, (BMC) our employees are superstars! We recently sat down with Sean, a maintenance technician, so he could share his story and the success he’s had at Browning Masonic Community. Meet Sean, a Browning Masonic Community Superstar!

How long have you worked at Browning Masonic Community?

I started working at BMC last summer, so I’ve been here just over six months. I’m from Monclova so I have lived in the area most of my life. I’ve flipped houses and did maintenance at a greenhouse for several years. Before coming to BMC, I worked in a factory for nearly 10 years. I’m glad to be back doing maintenance, and particularly working at BMC with our residents.

What makes Browning Masonic Community different than other senior living communities?

Since I have never worked in a senior living community before, I can’t compare, but I definitely can tell you what is different and better from the previous places where I have worked. It’s so easy to talk to the leadership at BMC and they take the time to listen to what I want to ask or share.  Everyone is willing to listen to suggestions, and you don’t find that everywhere.  I see efficiency here at BMC; therefore, I can get work done quickly and easily.

What do your daily responsibilities include?

When you work in maintenance, you need to be able to handle a variety of different problems.  You must be comfortable working on electrical or plumbing issues as well as painting.  You also need organizational skills, the ability to organize tasks based on immediate need.

When I think about a typical week, I divide the week into thirds.  I spend about a third of my time in resident’s rooms, another third rehabbing empty rooms and the last third working in the common areas.

What are some of your favorite benefits Browning Masonic Community offers?

One of the benefits that drew me to BMC was the tuition assistance.  I have an interest in going back to school, so I appreciate the potential for some assistance. I was pleased with the starting pay and benefits.  The pay and benefits are better at BMC than at many other places in our area.  At other places, you have to work for an extended period of time before you receive the pay and benefits that I started with here.

Another important benefit is the level of freedom BMC provides me to organize and complete my work. Working with our residents and making them happy is a special benefit to everyone who works at BMC.

What would you tell a prospective employee about Browning Masonic Community?

Give Browning Masonic Community a close look and I think you will quickly understand the culture that makes BMC a good place to work. You will have the opportunity to start with good pay and benefits. The employees invest in each other to help you learn your job and feel part of the community.

Why do you love working at Browning Masonic Community?

Working with residents is new to me, and I’ve discovered how much I enjoy working here. Working in a factory, flipping houses, and factory work doesn’t provide you with the opportunity to build personal relationships. The resident connection makes each day special. It feels fantastic when I put a smile on our residents’ faces and brighten their day.
