A True Superstar
At Western Reserve Masonic Community (WRMC), our employees are superstars! We recently sat down with Katrina from Life Enrichment so she could share her story and the success she’s had at Western Reserve Masonic Community. Meet Katrina, a Western Reserve Masonic Community Superstar!
How long have you worked at Western Reserve Masonic Community?
I have worked at Western Reserve Masonic Community for 6 years. I began as a resident assistant (RA) and have moved to Life Enrichment. I drive from Akron every day where I live with my husband. I have two children and two grandchildren. I have also been a foster parent for some special needs children. I don’t mind the 30-minute drive when I enjoy coming to work.
What makes Western Reserve Masonic Community different than other senior living communities?
I have worked as a caregiver at other locations as well as in-home care. I cared for a lady in her home for 17 years. When it became time to move back to a community environment, I knew WRMC was the place for me.
WRMC is beautiful and very clean. It just makes me feel good to come to work. I love my co-workers. We support each other. When I returned from surgery, they were there to support me and make sure I didn’t injure myself.
What do your daily responsibilities include?
I handle Life Enrichment for our Pathways Memory Support Neighborhood, so I do a variety of tasks. Charting and getting the cart ready to take in the neighborhood are necessary, but working with our residents is what I enjoy the most.
I work Monday through Friday, so each morning we bake something for the day. It may be cookies or sometimes we make brownies. We enjoy our snacks, so we also have ice cream or popsicles.
Our residents enjoy playing games such as bingo or playing cards and coloring. All of our ladies like getting their nails polished. We have outdoor space with plants and vegetables. Sometimes we just enjoy sitting outside in the sun. I want to make sure our residents enjoy themselves every day. Our residents make sure every day is special for me as well.
What are some of your favorite benefits Western Reserve Masonic Community offers?
I’ll start with my salary and benefits. My salary is great as well as my hours and the flexibility of my schedule. I was able to take off without worries about my job security when I had major surgery, and our insurance covered everything!
All benefits aren’t financial. When I was off work, the flowers, cards, texts, and calls brightened each day. All of my co-workers did everything possible to remind me that my extended family was there for me.
What would you tell a prospective employee about Western Reserve Masonic Community?
Join our team, it’s a great place to work! You will love it. You are expected to do your best, and your supervisor and co-workers are there to help you learn to do your job. Even after you have been trained, they will always be there to answer your questions.
Why do you love working at Western Reserve Masonic Community?
In my six years of working at Western Reserve Masonic Community, I have received support from the community leadership as well as my co-workers. Jason French, the President, has always been there for me. You won’t find that everywhere you work. He gave me the opportunity to move into a different career field. I moved from being an RA to Life Enrichment. He believed I could do the job and I guarantee that I won’t let him down.
