Meet Carrie, LPN-Clinical Manager of Assisted Living

A True Super Star

At Springfield Masonic Community, (SMC) our employees are superstars! We recently sat down with Carrie, a Licensed Practical Nurse, (LPN) so she could share her story and the success she’s had at Springfield Masonic Community. Meet Carrie, a Springfield Masonic Community Superstar!

How long have you worked at Springfield Masonic Community?

Back in 2003-2004, I spent a few months working at SMC. I made a great choice in 2016 and came back, and I’ve been here for over 8 years now! I got my LPN from Clark State University and have lived in the area for a long time. I even married my high school sweetheart! We’ve got two awesome sons and a dog.

What makes Springfield Masonic Community different than other senior living communities?

I have worked in assisted living at two other communities since I graduated with my LPN.  One of the things that makes Springfield Masonic Community so special is that SMC is a continuing care retirement community, or CCRC.  This gives our residents the opportunity to age in place and alleviate the worries of repeatedly moving.

SMC has a strong Life Enrichment Team that brings the residents together regularly with a large variety of activities.

What do your daily responsibilities include?

I manage all aspects of the nursing department. Each resident is an individual and they need their own service/care plan. I write and maintain their plans. I have the pleasure of working with our residents as well as their families. If one of our nurses is off, sometimes I fill in for them. That’s always rewarding to spend one on one time with our residents.

It’s my job to make sure everything runs smoothly for both our residents and our employees. SMC’s quality ratings are based on much of what I do, so I want to make sure I give my all.

What are some of your favorite benefits Springfield Masonic Community offers?

My favorite benefit is the matching 403B. It’s a great way to start saving from the beginning of your career. That isn’t found at most companies.

I also appreciate our Extended Illness Reserve (EIR) plan. This is paid time away from work due to employee personal illness in excess of five consecutive calendar days (or from the first day in the event of inpatient hospitalization). Our Company’s EIR bank can be compared to Short-Term Disability or income replacement coverage in the event of a serious personal illness.

Another great benefit that employees have is our program that provides you up to $5,000 per year for your college education. This is not a reimbursement; the payment is made at the beginning of the semester.

What would you tell a prospective employee about Springfield Masonic Community?

SMC is a great place to work! You will find our community to be very welcoming, and that starts at the top all the way through the community. Take the time to look at the benefits package and you will quickly understand that you will be taken care of, and you can grow academically if you choose. You will receive training to make sure that you are prepared to be successful in your job.  Simply, you will be treated like family.

Why do you love working at Springfield Masonic Community?

For me, the answer is simple. It’s the people, our residents. This is the generation that I love to serve.
