Meet Jessica, Springfield Masonic Community Executive Chef

A True Superstar

At Springfield Masonic Community, (SMC) our employees are superstars! We recently sat down with Jessica, Executive Chef, so she could share her story and the success she’s had at Springfield Masonic Community. Meet Jessica, a Springfield Masonic Community Superstar!

How long have you worked at Springfield Masonic Community?

I have worked at SMC for 12 years. I joined the team in October 2012. I started as a cook in the Community Center. In 2023, I was promoted to the Production Manager of the Community Center. About three months ago, I was honored to be promoted again to the Executive Chef for SMC.

It’s an honor to work in the same area where I grew up. I went to Northwestern High School, and I am raising my two children, one son and one daughter, in this same area.

When I graduated from high school, I started school for computers.  It didn’t take long to know that I needed to go back to my first love, cooking.  Cooking runs deep in my family, and I knew it was what I needed to be doing.

What makes Springfield Masonic Community different than other senior living communities?

Springfield Masonic Community leadership makes everyone feel appreciated and welcome. We are team oriented and that comes from the top, our great leadership team. It doesn’t take long before you discover that you really want to come to work, and it’s not just a job, but somewhere you really want to be.

What do your daily responsibilities include?

We have two kitchens at SMC, so I start each day by greeting the staff in both. I want to make sure the kitchen staff have all the production they need for the recipes and that they understand how to create the recipes. Often, I will help with the meal prep. I believe it’s always good to work alongside your staff.  I’m also in charge of inventory as well as production. One of my favorite responsibilities is creating new recipes as well as menus.

What are some of your favorite benefits Springfield Masonic Community offers?

I do my best to be very careful when it comes to saving.  For me, one of the best benefits is our 403B plan.  The money comes directly from my paycheck before I ever get it. If you are not accustomed to saving regularly, this is the best way to do it.  You don’t miss it when it comes out in advance.

We have an excellent PTO/EIR plan. I encourage everyone to understand just how beneficial this plan can be when you need to use it.

One of those benefits can’t buy is the friendships you develop with our residents. That’s just the best!

What would you tell a prospective applicant about Springfield Masonic Community?

I would tell anyone looking to join our team that Springfield Masonic Community; is a great place to work! You can grow in your field, and we will see you receive the training you need to be successful in your job. You will quickly learn that you have been chosen to be part of a second family.  Enjoy it!

Why do you love working at Springfield Masonic Community?

I love to be creative each day and make good food for the residents to enjoy. I love a good challenge, and my job is just that every day.  I tell everyone, “I cook with love.”
